thsi article (which was also in Populat Hot Rodding) tests a bunch of popular mufflers in flow, sound pressure, performance and hp. Its probably as complete a test as can be done by a third party and the writer of the article is highly regarded in more than just the pontiac crowd . It shows the Dynomax Super hemi muffler as one of the highest flowing and quietest mufflers in the bunch. The Blowmasters typically finish in the bottom of the bunch.. Like i always said..rather be fast than loud.. :)

All I know is they have an incredible amount of backpressure!! They have BLOWN OFF twince now while under boost. WIth them off, I pick up about 4# of boost.

THANKS!!!

I think if I swap muff's I'm gonna go with the Hemi's. THey make SO much power, and are dead quiet. You cant go wrong with that!!! I could run a "louder" muff and you wouldnt know it on my car, it keeps things pretty quiet regardless. Even open downpipes, its not THAT loud.

Back when I worked for Navistar Engine Engineering, our air flow engineer (aeronautical engineer really) would invite people to bring in mufflers to go on the flow bench.
He is actually the 1 who told me that the DynoMax Turbos were THE BEST he'd ever seen, and also put the FlowMasters @ the bottom of the pile.
He flowed 2 1/4" for me when I replaced the sys. on my MK in 2000, and as a bonus, it sounded great.
Now that I'm going to 2 1/2", I expect the same results.

Im running MAC Flowpath mufflers with a 2.5 inch offroad Xpipe...at idle its got a nice quite audible grumble. but DAMN does it scream when u slam the gas. I guess its from the lack of cats. Im a huge fan of these mufflers compared to Flowmasters/Dynomax, and some fabbed SLP exhausts i heard.

But that is why the Flowmasters work pretty good on a stock engine. Seat of pants feel with most of the benefit in the mid-range says #1 with the Flowmasters out-pulls #3 with Full-Boars (installed by previous owner). But when you start to open up the potential with heads, cam, boost or juice then the DynaMax is the way to go.

Ijust hopped on summit's site, and looked up dynomax mufflers. I found a ultraflow ss, 3 inch inlet and 3 inch outlet stainless steel. I wonder if that is the one? There are several different types and the one in the chart that hr lincoln posted is a oval kinda classic muffler shape, as opposed to the ss, part # 17296, is a tube shape. i'm confused. which one is the best for a mostly race car?

FlowMaster 40's owner here. :crossed:
I've got the exact sound for the exact application at the approximate price (free would have been better) that I want.

I also run flowpaths, when I added the supercharger it quieted it down a little bit, I am looking to get something quieter, Flowpaths were the loudest on the market but also made some good numbers compared to other mufflers, "results done by mustang and fast ford" when you get on the gas man are they loud.

dynomax ultraflow welded 2.5" on my lsc and they sound great. not to loud and not too quiet. they out flow anything because there is no bends in the muffler tube in side the muffler. part number is 17222 i think?????

Big difference in flow.

I wish I had a OEM to Turbo dba comparison. It's a shame they don't make this under a 4" diamenter to use as tails. :crossed: Posted Image
