This looks like solid progress. I like the fit between the wheel well trim and the panel; simple and neat.

Yes, I'm pretty happy with how things are unfolding. I'm shooting for having all the lower bod panels installed by next weekend (If I keep at my current pace). I'll slap my ole turbine wheels on and pull her out of the garage for some final wet sanding and body prep.

Looking sweet.

What are you using to seal all these new holes you are drilling?

nothing on the outside. but I do have Eastwood Heavy Duty Sealing Compound (a very Heavy Waxy stuff like OEM) that I'm painting on the inside of the door. Once I epoxy primer the outside, it pretty much is going to seal everything outside.

Today, I installed the upper Driver and Passenger door panels. I was super nervous about the J-Channel install and fitment with the panel, BUT,, Holy smokes, All that extra time I took in measuring and remeasuring paid off.

Inital fitment of the rear lower panels

The greatest thing about this whole kit is the ability to remove the panels once they are mounted up.. This is going to make prep nice and easy, plus I can remove any section in the future for any repairs or just for being nosy.

Today I also returned to sanding more of the shiny items that are going to be covered with the black trim spray.
Tomorrow I'm going to do inital cutting and fitting of the Lower center body panel.. With everything going as it has , and this being (in my opinion) the easy panel, I should have something mounted up by the end of Sunday... I can't say enough about the fitment and how well everything is going.. There was a huge amount of effort in the original design of the GTC panel's , and it shows.

Passenger rear lower has been installed. Had to trim out the original opening for the lower marker light so It could be fitted flush with the fiberglass lower. I still have some final trimming of the metal once I get to mounting the light up.

Also started to fit the lower sill panel,, just some light triming required. Its an easy mount with the rear and front fender screws doing the mounting duty.

Another incentive photo.

I'll tackle the drivers side once I finsh up fitment on the passenger side.

Probably the easiest way is to trim a fairly large margin around the existing hole in the fender and mount the light directly to the fiberglass. You already know to seal well the fender openining against the harsh PA winters.

I will do that Bill. Thanks for the info.. Yeah things are really coming along and looking well., I'm super pleased with how things are rolling along. I only wish I could spend more time at this. I've been moving along with devoting about 6 hours a week, but alas, things are really starting to show in progress.

For some unknown reason this site still won't allow me to upload a picture. Rob, if you'll PM me your email address I'll send it to you. It's of the cutout for the side marker light.

Looking good dude!
Hope to see it in paint soon. :)

FWIW,
The rear quarter piece for my kit (original) has a metal plate spanning the length of the existing factory light bezel hole that the light trim piece now mounts to. -Which sandwiches the kit panel and 1/4 panel together...... if that makes sense.
The only other mounting points for that piece are in the wheel well and at the valence overlap in the rear.
No doubt Bill has you covered though.... just throwing out some food for thought. :)
CHEERS!

That's an interesting method. If I understand correctly the plate seals the quarter panel and floats in the fiberglass panel opening. Very clever.

The plate is inside the trunk ...with some "liberally" applied butyl inside the trunk to seal things up.
...Bulb is still servicable, so there must be 2 plates per side, come to think of it. ...or one plate per nut.
It was last spring since I was in that nook of the car, so memory is a bit foggy. I can flip the carpet back and snap a pic if anyone is interested.

Here's the passenger side light bezel. You can see that the stud fits through a slit in the bracket.
....she ain't too pretty, but it has kept the trunk dry for the last 25yrs I guess.
Hope the pic helps you out anyway. :)
