I parted it out..............................................................The End.

NAH! It's alive and well and undergoing a makeover. To bring some folks up to speed, this is the car Big Ant sold last month with the 5-speed conversion, trick flow heads, etc. When Ant put it up for sale, I didn't have the money to buy it. Luckily for me, MikeJ bought it and he only lives an hour from me. Mike decided the car wasn't for him and since he knew I liked it, he offered it to me for the same price he paid for it. (Big thanks to Mike for that) . Once again, luck was on my side because the same day Mike offered me the car, I made a deal with a guy to buy my LT1 firebird. I THOUGHT I was going to have some money in my pocket but the Lincoln gods wouldn't allow it! I couldn't let the red car slip away again, so i bought it from Mike. I have to fix a few minor odds and ends that Ant described in his ad, but i also wanted to make the car look a bit better too. The clearcoat was completely sun beaten on the top of the car, but the sides were still shiny. I only have a Tent-garage to keep the car in so I didn't want to go crazy with a real nice paint job on the car. I mainly want this car to just be its bad-ass street/strip self. So I decided to paint the top of the car in satin black. This week I sanded down the entire top of the car (real fun job) , masked it last night , then shot it in primer early this morning. The area you see in primer is going to be shot with the satin black paint. (30% gloss) The paint I'm going to be using is an acrylic urethane called "Hot Rod Flatz". Most of the trim on this car came from the factory with a satin black finish and the Bullitt wheels have Black spokes with a polished lip. I figure the satin black top will tie it all in and give it a bit of a sinister look. Most likely, after I wet sand the primer, I'll turn my attention to the engine compartment next. I want to shoot that with my small touch up gun, then I'll shoot the outside , probably early next week. After that, I'll repaint the front and rear bumper areas in the factory red paint with black rub strips. Here are a couple pics of the progres so far. I'll keep updating as I move along.
Roy.

Damn, lucky you, I was next on the list to get the car when Ant was selling it. Good luck with it.

That thing is gonna look MEAN!
Have you thought at all about painting the raised section of the hood(only) in a gloss black.
(That would look pretty sharp,IMO)

Good luck, ...and keep those progress pics coming. :)

Thanks guys. I'll keep the pics coming as I make progress.
Nick, it would have went to a good home if you had gotten it too. I'm really psyched to have this car. There is no way I would have enough time or money to build a car equivalent to this from scratch. With this car, I hope to begin enjoying driving it in a few weeks and still continue to make more improvements as time and money allow.
Chestnut, I'm not sure if Frank owned this car before Ant. I don't think so, but I could be wrong.
95pres, If I had a real garage to keep the car in I probably would have put some kind of nice, shiny paint job on the whole car, maybe even in the original garnet red. I figure the satin black will give it a "tough" look and also be "wash and go". If I painted the hood shiny black that will be one more panel I'd have to keep polished. ;) LOL.

I went to DMV today and registered the Red car. My @$$ is still sore from the insane fees they charge now. I only rode in the car once while Mike had it and I didn't even want to drive it around my neighborhood unregistered due to the attention the exhaust will attract. So I took it for its first, brief test drive today. It's definitely an animal. I mean that in the best way. LOL. My head is still rattling from the exhaust note. LOL. Right now it has those straight-thru Race bullets on it that end under the car. I have a 3" (or 3.5, i can't remember which) set of flowmasters sitting in my shed with pipes that should exit in front of the rear wheels. I might give them a try to see how they sound. I don't really want the car quiet because it sounds so Bad ass. I just wanna get SOME of the sound outside the car. I took a couple side shots of the car when I got back to the house. I just pulled it inside the garage and I'm going to prep the engine compartment for paint now.

looks good revon. why not match the upper trim to the new color? then break the red and new color up with a black pin strip going around.

Actually, I plan on doing exactly that.

I just finished shooting the engine compartment. I won't be doing the actual "detailing" of the engine until I'm done shooting the exterior, hopefully next monday or tuesday. I try to limit my painting to when the neighbors are most likely to be at work to avoid unwanted attention. In the meantime I'll probably install some interior trim that needs to go back into the car.

LOL. Thanks guys. I can't wait to have the top finished in the Satin Black. The engine compartment came out with just the right amount of shine (or lack, thereof) that I was looking for. I don't know how familiar you guys are with how a stock, AAR Cuda looks, but they had a satin black finish covering the entire hood and the tops of the fenders from the factory. I was checking one out at a show a couple of weeks ago and it had the same low gloss finish I wanted on this car. The Hot Rod Flatz paint seems to spray very nice but the fumes have a real kick to them. (Yes, I wear a respirator while spraying but the smell was still potent in the garage later on.)

You did use a quality activated primer on the car? If not, the activator and reducer of the paint can soften the primer and give you a nice, unwanted crackle finish. And why prime the whole top just to put on a layer of paint? This will give you more build-up and a more pronounced tape line. I would have just wet sanded all of the dead off and taped and shot.

The top of the car was beyond just wet sanding. There were areas where the clearcoat was still intact and others where it was completely gone. Kind of like a patchwork of different surfaces. I also had to repair some dents in the top of the driver fender. Hopefully it will look good when I'm done. I wasn't really concerned about the more pronounced tape line. Not looking to make a show car out of it. Eventually the sides of the car are going to have to be painted too.

No such thing...it might be a bit dead, but you can't tell me that sanding with 600 or even 400 would not take it out. I can understand you needing to fix a couple of dents, but to prime the whole thing is just a waste of product and just adds to the build of material at the break....tape line. To each his own, but just wondering if there was an actual reason.
